State Parks We Recommend Within 50 Miles (approx.) of Louisville

Updated: Feb 24

Planning a camping trip with a tow vehicle for the first can be intimidating. Have no fear - there are beautiful parks with RV hookups within an hour's drive of our pick up address in Louisville.

Charleston State Park in Southern Indiana

This gorgeous spot offers challenging hikes with beautiful views over the Ohio. The campsite has 60 RV hookups spots for rent during the camping season (April to October). Another cool feature about this park is the abandoned amusement park Rose Island. It's a spooky place for pictures and exploring.

Be sure to snap pics of the gorgeous water features during the spring and fall seasons, including water falls and burbling creeks.

We you get back to the campsite after a long day, you'll be grateful for the running water and electricity with the full hook up site.

General Butler State Resort Park

This park is well-maintained and great for groups. It's a popular spot for long haul RVers to spot off for the night. Located conveniently just an hour 40 minute drive from Louisville (with a tow vehicle), this area has a playground, easy hiking trails, a small lake, and easy access to a nearby Walmart. These are all things that make it perfect for traveling with children.

Deam Lake Recreation Area in Indiana

This Area is all about the lake. A wide open beach fills with swimmers in the summer month. Whether you're into fishing, kayaking, or chilling by the water, this is an ideal summer spot.

Shaded hiking trails give respite from the sun. But if you're really ready to relax, the 113 electrical hookup camper spots will keep the fans on. Keep in mind that no water is available at the hookup. They do offer clean, communal bathrooms with showers.

Taylorsville Lake State Park

Lake, lake and more lake. This spot is all about fishing and water sports. Take in a view of a sunset over the water from Lake View hiking trail, or mount up for a horse ride. Bald eagles nest around the lake and can be spotted flying low over the water.

This spot only has 43 full hookup RV sites, so be sure to book your dates early. Remember that Kentucky residents get a free day if booking a weekday.

These are our top recommendations for the 2022 camping season. If you know of others, leave them in the comments or send us a note at vintagevoyagelouisville@gmail.com.
